BIG POST...FINAL POST

First of all.... I wanted to remind you of the water party at my house tomorrow at 10.

Second: I want to take my kids to a dairy farm in Amalga that is really High Tech. A friend mentioned it and said it was really neat. It puts the cows on a carousel that they are milked on. I already talked to the owner and we can go Aug. 4th. The cows are milked from 12-2 so it would be more exciting to go then. She also thought that it would be nice to have the kids have some milk and cheese to try after but it would cost a little. What do you think? Are any of you interested? I haven't scheduled it yet because I wanted to get a feel for if anyone else would like to go.

Third: This will be my last post for the summer. Here is the rest of the letters, and what we came up with.

V: Video. Make a homemade video and then watch it. Come up with a story to play out.

W: Walk, take a walk

X: X marks the spot, make a treasure hunt

Y: Make a book about YOU

W: Willow park zoo.

Sorry for the lack of extra things but I'm getting busier and I need to focus on different things right now. I hope you have enjoyed doing some of the things. If you are interested in going to the dairy with me please call me or leave a comment. Thanks
Sandra

T and U

T- TEA PARTY. Or as I call them at our house punch parties ha ha. I created a Westwood Restaurant box a few years ago that we pull out when we have our Punch parties. I added the burners on the bottom with a black sharpie so they can use it to play kitchen with also. Inside we have our "play" dishes and menus.

I made a menu and laminated it. It has common snacks like Gold Fish Fillet is gold fish, or Sliced and Fried Spudnik (chips), Breaded Sticks (pretzels) etc.. The kids love it when I act like a French waiter and yell at the cook (Jacques) who cooks in our pantry.
Have your kids make up their own menu.
I also have kept those plastic cards they send in the mail for credit card offers. Then at the end they pay with that or monopoly money.

U is for Utah.
Hop online and learn about Utah. Visit your local visitors center.

For a treat you can make Upside down cake, umbrella shaped cookies or these Unicorn cupcakes.

What ideas do you have for T and U?

R and S day's and some more info

So I was at Wally world and was looking at their different craft things and found some Washable tempra paint for 5 bucks woo hoo. It came in 8 different colors.

Also some other things I haven't written down but have tried:
We roasted mini marshmallows over a candle with a toothpick....be very watchful of this one ha ha.
Face painting: They have some cheap paint at Walmart for this too.
Oh I also wanted to mention for those who don't know, Lowes and Home Depot have kids classes on Saturdays. Home Depot is the first Saturday while Lowes does their clinics on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays at 10:00. They make fun wooden projects.

So we had R day set out for Riding. We thought we could ride horses but we already did that. I guess you could go ride the horse ride at Kmart ha ha. I figured we would Ride bikes.

This is the craft, you can also do rainbow necklaces.

Froot Loops Rainbow
Suitable for 2+ years

Supplies
Froot Loops cereal
Paper
Glue
Something with which to write
Directions
Separate the Froot Loops according to color. This would be good color practice for a child who is still working on color recognition.
Draw a rainbow on the paper.
Then glue the appropriate color fruit loops to he paper.

For S day : SOUNDS and SENSES

I love doing taste tests. Blind fold the kids and have them try different things like popcorn, sugar, grapes, salt... whatever you have on hand. See if they can guess what it is.

As for the sounds a fun game we have played is to split into teams and record different sounds around the house. Such as a door shutting, a book closing or water running and see if they can guess what the sound is from.

I'm running out of motivation to do this blog. Do you guys do these activities? Do I continue to post?

Q is for Quiet time

Q is a hard letter. When we got together we set Q as Quiet time. I have this scheduled for the 15th which happens to be our Ward Campout. So quiet time outdoors it is.
Although I'm pretty sure with a bunch of kids it will be anything but quiet he he

You can also play with Quiet books or have your kids help make them. Just type Quiet books in a search engine and a bunch of how to sites will show up.

P is for Painting

Did you know you can buy end rolls at the Herald Journal for 1 dollar. There are still lots of paper left on them too. Great for little artists.

There are so many things you can paint or paint with. My kids love to paint with pudding although most of the time they eat their drawings. My kids also love Dot art. I bought a set when I saw them in Branson Missouri, you can check them out at this site: http://www.dotart.com/

We already did this for M day but at Walmart they have a cute set of six plastered animal magnets they can paint. They also have face paints pretty cheap.

Another kind of painting my kids like is to paint the bathtub. Just add a drop of food coloring into a bowl of shaving cream. Plus it leaves the bathtub smelling nice he he.

Did you know you can paint with milk? I saw this idea on friends blog a few years ago and had to try it. Just add a couple drops of food coloring into a couple tablespoons of milk. Draw on bread with clean paint brushes. If your like me and soggy bread doesn't sound appetizing, toast the bread. I have painted green leprechaun feet on my kids sandwiches for St. Patrick's day for the last couple years, they get a kick out of it. You can do the same for the different holidays (heart for Valentines, bunny for Easter etc...)

I think it would be fun to put that paper from the rolls all around the fence and let the kids paint like crazy with some washable paint. Then spray them off when they are done. Although my search for a cheap washable (won't stain) paint has been unsuccessful. If you have ideas, please share.

Here is a site for some Preschool paint recipes: http://www.perpetualpreschool.com/paint.html

Arts and Crafts

Here is some information passed on from another friend.

Michaels Arts and Crafts is having Passport to Fun Craft days every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11 to 2 from June 21 through July 30.  You get to make a hat pin in the shape of a country's flag, as well as an awesome craft, which is different each day that they are holding it.  It is totally free.  If you wish, you may purchase a hat to stick all your country flags on.  They also have free passport books at the registers, and when you go, you get to fingerprint the country you have "visited".  I was totally impressed!  There is a different country for each day they are holding it.  We had so much fun.

Monday Fun

Every Monday at 1:00 till the end of July (except the 4th of course) at Bridger Elementary there is a story and craft to make. Today the kids made these fun place mats after reading the Patchwork quilt. They laminated them when they were finished.Andrew wasn't excited about going (boys...maybe it's just mine) but after making his mat he is excited for next weeks craft.

The book exchange is from 9 am to 12 Mon-Thurs. The Library is open at the same time.

Just a reminder about tomorrow's horse riding. Anyone is welcome to come. Meet at the church (250 W. 1200 N) at 10:00 and we will follow Mandy there.

H FUN and finishing June with K and L

Mandy knows someone who is willing to let the kids ride Horses. We are meeting at the church at 10:00 on Tuesday the 21. It's in Wellsville and we are going to follow her there. If you have any questions call Mandy at (435) 760-6972. I'm pumped, I know my kids will be so excited to ride. She does want me to mention that the kids should where pants and shoes (no sandles). A hat to block the sun would help also.

Can you believe that June is already half over??? Yikes. Summer always goes by so fast to me. I have been having fun with these ideas I hope you have too. Please share your ideas.

G is for Grandparents

I have this day scheduled for the 16th of June.

With Fathers day coming write a letter to Grandpa. Or have them draw a picture for both Grandparents.

That doesn't take long so you can check out the other G activities at dltk.

http://www.dltk-teach.com/alphabuddies/letter-g.html

A snack for G day could be granola bars, grapefruit, grapes, grated cheese, green peppers, graham crackers, gingersnaps, goldfish crackers, Gummi bears ...

I was going to mention that I saw in the Mayceys ad that they are having a free breakfast at 8:00 on Saturday and to celebrate flag day the kids can get a mini flag, balloon and stickers. Movies also will be shown in the little theater.

F is for Fathers and Flags

So I'm curious if anyone is reading these posts? I haven't seen any comments or other ideas for awhile.

For "F" day we are making flags and learning about them on the internet since I had it scheduled for June 14th which is Flag day. Do you know what Flag day is? It's the day the flag was adopted as the US Flag. (I didn't know that, did you?)

I think with my kids I'll have them draw their own flags and post them to small dowels. We could have our own flag parade :)

With Fathers day coming up you can have your kids make fathers day cards or think of a way to make fathers day special. Maybe make a Fathers Flag to use as a centerpiece for that special day.

Here is a fun site for a craft they could make for dad as well: http://familyfun.go.com/fathers-day/fathers-day-crafts/

As for a treat idea... making our own French fries (it was the first that came to my mind...plus their my favorite :)

Theres Figs, Fish (swedish Fish of course, I don't think kids would go for fish as a snack), Fruit, flapjacks, or fudge, the possibilities are endless.

Please share your ideas for F day.

Be careful out there!

As Summer brings on Swimming and other fun water activities, it can also be dangerous. Mandy thought it would be good to share this article. Stay safe! ...darn link button it never works. I tried it a couple ways what am I doing wrong??? Well copy and paste for this one too.

Moving on with D

I figure I better add posts when I get a moment. I don't want to fall behind.

I don't know if any of you made it up to Stokes Nature Center for their Bug Night but our kids loved it. The boys couldn't get enough of the snakes. They made cute butterflies out of coffee filters. The kids painted them with water colors then pinched them in the middle and tied it with pipe cleaner which popped up to make the antennas. They also could make a Caterpillar out of paper. So you could do the butterfly for B day or the Caterpillar for C day :)
I was also going to mention that for B day you could ride the BUS. I'm going to attempt it with six kids so wish me luck he he.

We put D day down for June 8th. Dates can always be changed I just have it scheduled out through the Summer doing two to three letters a week.

DINOS:
What kid doesn't love learning about Dinosaurs. Anybody remember the song "Everybody walk the Dinosaur"?

"Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the Dinosaur."

We talked about making Dino eggs. You can use little toy dinos in the middle. To make dinosaur eggs, all you need is flour, dirt or used coffee grounds (yeah we have a lot of coffee here so we have that lying around ha ha), sand, salt and water. You can use sand from the sandbox or fancy colored craft sand. You'll want something like an old margarine tub to stir it all in. Put in about 2½ cups flour, 2½ cups of dirt or used coffee grounds, about a cup of sand, and 1 and ½ cups of salt. Mix all that up. Don't worry too much about the measurements, a little more sand, a little more dirt, it really won't matter. If you want to, you can add a tablespoon of powdered tempera paint for color. Add only as much water as you need to get it to all stick together. Shape the "dough" around the small toys. Put them in a sunny place and let them dry out and harden. Depending on the sunshine and the weather, it may take a few days. It's a good idea to turn them occasionally so that the bottoms will dry out too.
To break them open they can scrape away the sand and dirt with an old spoon or edge of a rock. If they are in a bigger hurry they can break the eggs apart with a hammer, or by dropping them. Do supervise the hammers and dropping. Sore toes and fingers would not be fun.

Recipe for eggs from families.com

Snack: Dino fruit snacks

Please share your ideas for "D" day

Cinefour Theaters and "B" day idea

My next door neighbor gave me the flyer for the Summer movies happening at Cinifour. The first week of 6/6-6/9 will be Megamind. You can buy all 10 movies for 5 dollars till May 31st. After that they will be 10. If you don't want to go to all of them they are 1.00 a ticket.
Other movies through the summer are:
Shrek the final chapter
Diary of a Whimpy kid
How to train your Dragon
Nanny McPhee Returns
Despicable Me
Ramona and Beezus
Gullivers Travels
Narnia- Voyage of the Dawn Treader and
Yogi Bear

June 3rd- B DAY
BUBBLES: Kelli found how to make a giant bubble wand and a solution recipe in a magazine. Here it is:
You will need- Two three foot wooden dowels, craft glue and yarn.
1. Coat 8 inches of one end of dowel with glue then wrap with yarn.
2. Cut a 3 foot length of yarn and tie one end to the covered tip of one dowel, the other end to the tip of the other dowel.
3. Tie on a second, four foot length of yarn so that it hangs below the first.
4. Holding a dowel in each hand, dip the strings into a bucket or dishpan of bubble solution (below) then slowly pull the dowels apart, letting the soap film form between the strands of yarn. Wave the wand slowly through the air to make giant bubbles.

Homemade solution:
Stir together 1/2 gallon of distilled water into 1/3 cup dishwashing liquid and three tablespoons of glycerin (available at drugstores.

Make Rice Bubble Treats (Rice Krispies are known as rice bubbles in Australia and New Zealand) ha ha

Another idea I thought was cute was to make Jell-O "Bath" in cups. You could make it before you do the bubble wand as the Jello needs time to set up. I think a blue jello to look like the water would be fun.
Give each child their own "Bathtub" and have them add cool whip "BUBBLES" and put their teddy bears (gummy bears) in for a Bath. Eat and enjoy!

Please share your ideas for B day :)

Issues and Lets begin

I created a side bar for different links but I can only get a couple to link up...why???? I have no idea what I'm doing wrong so if you know please HELP.

There were two I couldn't get working so here are the web addresses.

http://www.tipjunkie.com/activities-for-kids/

http://www.usuchild.usu.edu/SAG.pdf

Now to get started. We went through the alphabet and picked things to do with each letter. Doing one to three letters a week. Do it on your own time and how you want, these are just ideas.

Last year I had my kids start with the alphabet of the day and think of as many things as they could that started with that letter. Draw pictures of those things and then pick one they wanted to research online.

"I'm Bored!"

I'm Bored! Do you ever hear this at your home?
I've been reading a book called The Family Managers guide to Summer Survival and they have a bunch of wonderful ideas.
One idea that I'm doing is putting together a craft box. Here is the list of items I want to include in this box. That way when the kids say I'm bored I can have a bunch of things they can play with but also ideas for things they can do with it.

Tape
Glue
Construction paper
Stickers
Pipe cleaner
stickers
googly eyes
stencils
clay
glitter
chalk
crayons/markers
Tempra and acrylic paint
paintbrushes
white and colored paper
smock (old shirt)
brown paper bags
buttons and beads
rick rack
egg cartons
Styrofoam cartons
magazines/ newspapers
Popsicle sticks
toilet paper and paper towl tubes
pom poms
finger paint
balloons
bean bags
paper plates

I know my kids also like floam and dot art.

That's not even the whole list but you get the idea.
So I'll include a list of little things they can do such as: Making flying saucers. Taping two paper plates together and gluing a paper bowl to the top to make a cabin for the crew. Color aliens etc. and then making a landing pad. Toss them to see who's lands closest to the pad.

Or Recycled boats: Using the fast food style foam containers poke a hole in the top. Add a stick and a sail make from construction paper and have a race.

There are also a list of science projects and bug adventures listed. I wish I could list them all the activities but there are so many it would take me forever. I just thought it would be a good idea to get a craft box together before the kids are out of school.

What other items would you put in???

Child ID kits

With the Summer coming our kids are going to be outside a lot more. I get a little nervous with my kids playing in the front. It brings a little bit of peace knowing I have these kits if anything were to happen. Take some time and fill one out for each of your children. Safe kids are happy kids :)

Go to this site to print your free ID kit.
http://www.registeredoffenderslist.org/child-id-kit.pdf

I used the insert link tab above but it didn't work. If anyone can tell me how to get it linked I'd appreciate it.
Thanks- Sincerely Technologically challenged :)

HERE WE GO!

Sisters Summer is fast approaching! It was great to set a schedule of fun stuff for the kids to do last week. I will start posting soon. If you have anything to contribute please do! Hope this works for everyone. Since I already have a schedule for the park group I will put that on a side bar for everyone to see. Thanks ladies!
